Nutrition Counselling

Nutritional guidance to improve and maintain your pet's general health and well-being.

The food your pet consumes is very important as it gives them energy and nourishment. Each pet requires a different diet because of their age, breed and any unique health condition. With nutrition counselling you learn exactly what your pet needs from their diet to help prevent them from developing health problems.

Why is nutrition counselling important?

Nutrition counselling involves a veterinarian examining your pet’s diet and making adjustments to ensure it supports their growth. The veterinarian will check your pet’s overall health and you can discuss any concerns you have about their eating habits. There are many benefits to having a nutrition consultation:

  • You learn which foods are right for your pet and how much they should be eating. There’s a huge selection of foods made for pets, so it can be hard to know which one is best. During this session we recommend brands that have complete and balanced ingredients. We also teach pet parents how to interpret labels to avoid overfeeding.
  • Pet owners and veterinarians get to be on the same page about their pet’s health. By checking your pet’s development our team can recommend dietary supplements as needed. We can also inform pet owners what human foods are unsafe for their pets to consume.
  • Nutrition counselling can help extend your pet’s life. Good nutrition can contribute to longevity in your pet and with consultations, your pet can avoid obesity, malnourishment, muscle loss, diabetes and organ failure.

What is the right type of food for my pet?

The specifics of your pet’s diet are dependent on their age, breed and overall health. Pets at different ages require different nourishment from their food, for this reason there are formulated foods for different age groups. You should always shop for foods made for your pet’s age group. If your furry friend has a health issue such as diabetes, arthritis or cancer your veterinarian will put them on a special diet. During a nutritional counselling session our team will make recommendations or create a special diet for your loyal companion.

What foods are dangerous for my pet?

Certain foods completely harmless for us humans can be toxic or dangerous for your pet. To be safe we encourage pet owners to only feed their pet foods made for them and to ask a veterinarian before introducing new foods to their diet. Here are some foods your pet should stay away from:
